To the southwest is the quiet neighborhood of Lakeshore. There are lots of places for adventuring nature here, a good stretch of Pacific coast beach, the freshwater Lake Merced, Fort Funston, and multiple golf courses. This is also where you will find the San Francisco Zoo, home to over 1000 exotic animals.

While this may be best traveled on a day you have the rental car, you can still get to the Lakeshore area using public transportation.
